No info on this one other than it chashed in the Panamint Valley, but part numbers found at the crash site indicated that it was a Vought A-7.
Driving on a dirt road in the Panamint Valley. Tom Gossett gave me the approximate location of this site about a year ago. I was in the area and had a couple of hours to kill so decided to see if I could locate it.
Lot of desert out there. This is the spot that I figure was marked on the map I have. The scale on the map is one inch equals four miles.
After looking around for a while found this piece. Aways feels great finding that first piece. Nothing else in sight, but it must be close by.
Same piece turned over, red on this side.
About walking a couple hundred feet to the south I started finding more pieces of wreakage.
This piece is over two feet long.
Closer look at the same piece. End grained balsa wood laminated between sheets of aluminum.
Piece from the canopy. Trying to find the impact area.
Looks like a piece from the fuselage.
