This is my second time doing this peak. The first time was in bad weather and didn't have a view due to being in the clouds. Had nice weather this time.
My trip to Death Valley starts in tarffic on the 210 Freeway.
The rains started a short way past Mojave. This is where I got gas in Inyokern, it's pouring. Sections of the 178 past Ridgecrest were flooded, but I was able the drive through.
The next morning I woke up to find Bruce's truck parked next to mine. It was windy, but the weather looked like it would be great for hiking. Corkscrew Peak in the background.
Gabriela, Bruce and Joe (me) at the starting point for the hike 2,560'.
In the big wash heading towards the peak. When I did this hike last year, it was really foggy. It's nice to be able to see the peak.
Looking back towards Death Valley to the south.
This is where the wash narrows and turns left, a trail duck on the rock marks the way.
About half the mileage on this hike is in the wash, the second part climbs a steep ridge.
The wash starts to narrow even more, getting close to where we start on the ridge.
This is the entrance to the ridge. It starts up a small tight canyon.
