On this hike Kathy got within 200' of the summit while I stopped at a saddle 1000' below. There was still plenty of time, but a bad thunder storm moved in. It was the first time I actually felt electricity on me from a thunder storm and I don't ever want to feel it again. This was the most fear I ever felt in the mountains. It will take a lot less to turn me around next time. Lightning is not to play with.
On Hwy 6 just past Bishop. Driving to the saddle below Kennedy Point in the White Mountains.
White Mountain at 14,246' from Hwy 6.
On the road that leads to the trailhead, plan to met Kathy there for the hike to Boundary Peak. Boundary and Montgomery Peaks are the peaks in back with snow
Better view of Boundary Peak at 13,140' and Montgomery Peak 13,440'.
On the way to the saddle I drove past a few mines, took this side road to check one out.
Looking down on the mini ghost town from the mine entrance.
Closer look at one of the old buildings.
More tailing piles as I drive further up the road.
The Queen Mine coming into view. The road to the saddle is rated for 4x4 past the mine. The saddle can be seen on the right of the peak.
