On 1/3/44 B-24J #42-73358 crashed on a peak south of Boron, Ca killing the 10 crew members on board. The bomber was returning to Muroc Army Air Field (Edwards AFB) from a routine night time cross country training mission when it’s pilot was told to hold at 9,000 feet due to two other B-24s that were landing ahead of them. For some unknown reason the bomber crash into the peak .
This is where I started the hike to peak.
Near the peak I found this pack rat nest. There was a few pieces of aircraft wreakage in it.
Close up of the pieces, the crash site must be close by.
Didn't find much on the peak so started looking around. This is the next piece I found.
This looks like it might be the impact site, lot of small pieces here.
Some of the pieces at the impact area.
Looks like part of a hinge from a control surface.
Numbers on the same piece.
