From crash report: On 27 September 1976, Sandy 24-26 Flight, three A-7D aircraft departed Nellis AFB, Nevada, on a Red Flag range orientation mission. The flight left the Nellis ranges at approximately 0958L (PDT) and while climbing to 16,000 feet, proceeded to the Beatty VORTAC. The flight maintained route formation and turned outbound on the 110 degree radial. After completing the turn, two aircraft, Sandy 24, S/N 74-1753 and Sandy 25 S/N 71-0361 collided. Sandy 24’s aircraft became uncontrollable and he ejected. The aircraft was destroyed on impact (Beatty TACAN 110/10MM).
