When Robert emailed me about the crash site that he had found, he included some photos of the wreckage. A few were of a buried engine that was half a mile east of the main wreckage. It just so happened that what little of the engine was showing had a data tag attached.

Close up of the tag showing it to be a GE-J85. There is a very good chance that this engine is one of the two from the T-38A #58-1197 as to my knowledge no other GE-J85 powered aircraft had crashed in this area.
