Spent three days in Death Valley. Day one, checked out the mine ruiuns at Skidoo. Day two, climbed Ubehebe Peak. Day three, drove out on Hunter Mountain Road.
On the ridge. Colorful mountains northeast of the Racetrack.
Zoomed in on the colorful section of mountains.
Making our way around the peak north of Ubehebe. Wind is blowing hard here.
The first saddle comes into view.
John and Ken on the saddle. The switchbachs lead back to the Racetrack.
Back on the first saddle.
Almost back to the trailhead.
The wind was getting stronger as we neared the Racetrack.
At the trailhead. Fun hike with great views of the Racetrack and surrounding areas.
After the hike, we headed out onto the Racetrack to get a closer look the Grandstand.
The wind was blowing really hard from the south as we crossed the lakebed.
Looking to the south from the Granstand.
A shot from up on the Grandstand looking to the southeast.
Heading back to the trucks.
Back at Teakettle Junction. We are looking for a place to camp for the night.
Driving through the canyon where we camped the night before. Someone was in the spot we used last night
In Hidden Valley. We checked a few places looking for one out of the wind.
We finally found a great spot at the Goldbelt Mine site. The temp was dropping fast after the sun set. It was nice having a fire.
Had a tripod with me, so tried a few night shots by moon and fire light.
The white line is John's head lamp on this long exposure.
A view of our camp spot. Temps were in the 20s last night.
Old dump truck at the mine site.
Another view of the truck. I was amazed that there were no bullet holes in it.
Two of the four collapsed buildings at the site.
This car was in the wash just below the buildings.
Another view of the car. There was also a lot of old cans here.
Flat cabin.
Checking out one of the buildings.
The stove was holding the roof up.
Found out which brand of beer the miners drank. There was a few of these around.
After checking out the mine site, we headed off to drive over Hunter Mountain. I was a little worried about the snow due to the low temps last night. Might be icy.
Looking back as we start to climb the switchbacks.
Didn't take long to reach the snow.
The snow was icy, but the trucks handled it fine.
This section was really icy. I had a hard time walking on it, but the trucks did OK.
We came upon this spot that looked like water.
Turned out to be a section of ice. John was out there staking.
It was slippery crossing it.
We soon were on the other side looking into Panamint Valley from South Pass.
Zoomed in on the Panamint Dunes.
Out of the snow.
Birds running in the rocks. There were about ten of them.
There were a lot of joshua trees at Lee Flat.
Joshua trees at Lee flat.
Great view of Telescope Peak as we drive to Panamint Springs for lunch.
Heading home after another great weekend in Death Valley.
