Crossing a bridge north of Barstow. Going to met Sooz, Chip and Robin for a hike to Black Mountain.
Driving on Fossil Bed Road, heading to Black Canyon from where our hike to Black Mountain will start from.
Chip, Sooz and Robin following close bihind.
We stopped in Black Canyon to check out the petroglyphs.
Robin taking photos of the glyphs behind the sign that is full of bullet holes.
Unfortunately one of the glyphs was damaged from the gun fire.
Robin, Joe(me), Sooz and Chip ready for the hike to Black Mountain.
There was a few different routes we could have taken to the peak, but we decided to do it from the northwest side by starting up this canyon.
Looking back from a short way up the canyon.

Robin and Chip up ahead. We decided to take a different route down.
Sooz with some big rocks.
Even thought the area has a lot of rocks, the routes we took up and down avoided most of them.
Sooz checking out an old mining claim marker.
Robin leading the way down the canyon.
Almost back to the road.
Heading back to the vehicles. The route we took down put us about a mile down the road from where we started. It nice doing the hike as a loop.
We stopped at Inscription Canyon on the way to a camp spot.
This area has some great looking petroglyphs.
Closer look at the glyphs, these are at the entrance of the little canyon.
We camped near Opal Mountain.
View of Opal Mountain and our camp site. Robin and Sooz hiked to it's peak in the morning.
Driving home, another fun weekend.
