Driving on Hwy 14 Friday afternoon on the way to hike Boundary Peak.
Stopped at Red Rock Canyon to take a few photos.
It's a great looking place, but I've only seen the area next to the highway.
Want to come back in the winter and spend a day looking around, to hot now.
View of the White Mountains from Highway 6.
Cool looking sign as we cross the state line into Nevada.
Just past the state line we got our first good look at Boundary & Montgomery Peaks. Boundary is in Nevada and Montgomery in California. Photo By Sooz
Couple of miles into Nevada, we turned on to the road that leads to the trailhead.
Colorful hills by the road.
Queen Canyon Saddle where we will spend the night and start the hike from.
Our campsite on the saddle at 9,800'.
Joe (me) & Sooz the next morning ready to start the hike to Boundary Peak.
Sooz just past the trailhead.
Looking down at the saddle as we start gaining altitude. The peak is Kennedy Point.
The first part of the hike climbs this north facing slope to about 10,800'. Sooz up ahead. I was moving really slow at the start.
Boundary Peak comes into view.
Next, the hike traverses with little ups and downs 1.5 miles to Trail Canyon Saddle.
At Trail Canyon Saddle 10,800'. We took a short break here before moving on.
Looking down Trail Canyon to the east from the saddle.
View of the snow covered Sierra to the west from the saddle.
Starting the hike up to the 2nd saddle.
Looking across the slope we traversed to Trail Canyon Saddle.
On the hike up to the 2nd saddle, we met up with a few hikers.
The moon was still up.
Almost to the saddle.
Mike, Ted & Cindy from Nevada on the 2nd saddle with Boundary Peak. They are looking towards Sooz who is taking a photo of them with their camera.
Mike took a photo of Sooz and I with my camera.
Looking down on Trail Canyon Saddle from the 2nd saddle at 12,100'.
Hiking on towards the peak.
Shot of Boundary from the 3rd saddle 12,200'. This is where my hike ended last year due to a lightning storm. VERY happy to have blue skies all day this time.
Looking down Boundary's north ridge.
We made the mistake of getting to low following one of the many use trails.
After climbing back up to the ridge, we crossed this patch of snow.
Crossing was a little scary, hoping to find another route on the way down.
Almost there.
We're here. Glad we made it.
On Boundary Peak 13,140' with Montgomery Peak behind us.
My altimeter was only 20 feet off. Boundary is the highest peak in Nevada.
White Mountain, the peak on the left.
Cindy near the Boundary/ Montgomery saddle. She is waiting there for Mike & Ted to return from climbing Montgomery. We were thinking about trying it, but didn't have it in us.
Montgomery's west ridge.
Zoomed in on Montgomery's west ridge and the Sierras beyond.
