We drove out the night before and camped out here near the Cowhole Mountains.
There was the remains of an old well next to where we camped.
Sooz and me with Big Cowhole Mountain behind us.
Starting towards the mountain.
We weren't sure about the route on this one. I picked what looked like the best route from the topo map.
Looking back as we follow a ridge up. Soda Lake is in the background.
View to the south.
The terrain was getting more difficult as we climbed higher on the ridge.
We tried to traverse past a bad section on the ridge but it was steep with a lot of loose rock. We decided to give up on this one and try a different route on another day.
Driving on Soda Lake as we head to Little Cowhole Mountain.
At the start of the hike for Little Cowhole Mountain.
This is going to be an easy hike.
Looking back at the town of Baker, the worlds tallest thermometer can be seen in the gap between the hills.
Sooz on the climb that leads to the peak.
Me and Sooz on Little Cowhole Mountain. It was a short hike, but it was nice to be on a peak after having to turn around on the other one.
Sooz on the peak with her Christmas hat.
View of Big Cowhole Mountain to the south.
The New York Mountains in the distance to the east.
Zoomed in on a section of the New York Mountains.,
The Brannigan Mine can be seen near the center of the photo.
Town of Baker to the north.
A section of the Mojave Road can be seen crossing Soda Lake.
Sooz hiked over to a nearby peak to check the view while I ate some snacks.
Starting down off the peak. It was getting late and we wanted to find a place to camp before it got dark.
Getting close to the truck.
About a hundred feet from the truck, I found this piece of tubing stuck in the ground.
Looking inside, was surprised to find it full of stink bugs. Some were trying to climb out, but the sides of the tube were too slippery.
Put a stick in so they could climb out on it.
Back at the truck, time to look for a camp spot.
Driving on Soda Lake again. We saw a place by a mine earlier that looked like a good place to camp.
Sunset
Our camp spot at the mine.
Sooz put some Christmas lights on the dashboard of the truck.
