The windmills near Palm Springs. When I see these I know I'm getting there.
Sooz up ahead on the road into Joshua Tree's south entrance. We came across each another on the 10 freeway.
Joe (me), Sooz and Kathy at Cottonwood Spring, our hike started from here 3,200'.
The first 2 miles of the hike were on a trail.
After a couple of miles we left the trail. We headed southeast XC to the base of a canyon, there we will set up our camp.
Looking northeast, it will be about a 1 1/2 mile hike from the trail to our camp site.
Getting closer to the base of the canyon. We will folow the canyon up to Ealge Mountain.
We got into some big rocks as we neared the canyon's entrance.
Rock shot.
Kathy checking the map.
Great looking clouds started to form.
Getting close to the canyon, it's time to start looking for a camp site.
Looking for an area to camp. We picked a spot near here.
Kathy and Sooz check the map before we start up the canyon. We are at 3,700' here.
A short way up the canyon.
Looking down the canyon, starting to get a view as we gain some altitude.
Cool looking rocks.
The view is getting a little better.
The clouds were making great looking shadows in the valley.
Sooz and Kathy. Lots of rocks in this canyon.
We saw a lot of diifferent types of cactus on this trip.
This hike turned out to be easier than we thought it would be. Even though there was no trail, it was easy climbing the rock filled canyon. It only got difficult as we neared the top.
A view down the canyon as we near the saddle.
A shot from the saddle at 5,000' looking to the northeast.
Eagle Mt on the right from the saddle. We would have to descend about 150' then climb about 450' up to the peak which still is a mile away.
There were some nice rock formations and trees in this area.
Kathy up ahead approaching the summit of Eagle Mountain.
Kathy, me and Sooz on Eagle Mountain 5,350'.
Sooz sets up for another group shot. Great rock formations in the canyon behind her.
Looking northeast.
A view to the northwest.
A view of the Salton Sea 20 miles to the southwest.
After signing the register and a snack break we were packed up and ready to hike back to camp. It was windy and cold on the summit.
Making our way back down the canyon to our campsite for the night. We saw a big male big horn sheep run down this canyon.
As we neared the bottom of the canyon the sun set.
Another sunset shot.
One more.
With about half a mile to go till we reached our campsite, it got dark. It's a good thing we marked the campsite on the GPS or we would never have been able to find it in the dark.
Sooz and Kathy back at camp.
Sooz
A look at our campsite the next morning. Temps got down to the low 30s, but we got lucky and there was no wind.
Kathy having breakfast in her bivy sack.
Sooz and Kathy up ahead as we start the hike back to the trailhead.
Looking back at the canyon we climbed on the way to Ealge Mountain.
While driving out of Joshua Tree, I saw this field of flowers. Pulled over to take a few photos.
