Joe(me), Tom, Norma, Scot, Cori and Sooz at the Olancha Pass Trailhead at 5,800 feet. This hike is Sooz's birthday hike which she does every year. Tom and I were day hiking, but the others were doing a four day backpacking trip.
Looking back to the parking area at Sage Flat from a short way up the trail.
Tom and Sooz.
Cori
Zoomed in on the parking area from higher up the trail.
It was hot on this section of trail. We got a late start, glad for the shady spots along the trail.
I liked the upper part of the trail, cooler with nicer scenery.
Scot
View up the canyon.
Haiwee Reservoir
Norma and Tom on the trail with Owens Lake in the valley below.
This little snake blened in well with the sticks, almost didn't see it.
Another view of Owens Lake. Looks like there is more water in it than I'm use to seeing.
We took a short break here in the shade. Temps were a little on the warm side.
Norma
Took a long break on a false pass at 8,700 feet. Olanch Pass is about three quraters of a mile further up the trail.
Nomra making adjustments to her pack.
Hiking on to the pass.
Round Mountain to the southeast.
A watering trough besided the trail, it was dry.
Approaching the pass, Tom is already there.
Norma and Scot getting a view of the sky.
Group shot on Olancha Pass at 9,200 feet.
Originally, Tom and I were only going to hike to the pass, but after reaching it decided to go a little further.
Bee
Norma, Cori and Sooz hiking along Summit Meadow.
View of a section of Summit Meadow. The meadow is over a mile long.
This is where Tom and I turned around. The others will continue on with their 4 day trip.
Another view of Summit Meadow with Round Mountain in the distance.
Zoom in on Round Mountain.
Almost back to Olancha Pass.
Past the false pass.
Horseshoes by the trail.
Nice looking ridge line south of the trail.
Sage Flat comes into view.
Back at Sage Flat.
We got back to the parking area just as the sun was setting.
Map showing the hike. We ended up hiking about 12.5 miles.
