Joe(me) and Tom at the Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead at 10,000 feet. The plan is to hike to Owens Point, then on to Woollyback.
Looking for a place to leave the trail and head towards Owens Point.
A weather station near Golden Trout Camp. We decided to head to the camp and continue up a drainage heading northeast towards the peak.
One of the cabins at the camp.
There was also a lot of tents.
Past the camp and stating the XC section of the hike.
We got a good view of Cirque Peak.
We came across a trail and followed it to this meadow.
The trail started heading away from our planed route. We crossed the meadow here to the start of the ridge we followed to trhe peak.
Tom up ahead starting up the ridge.
Trailmaster Peak on left with Cirque Peak between the trees.
This was a nice looking tree. One branch still was alive, looked really old.
There was a lot of nice looking trees in the area. I think they are Bristlecones.
Tom climbing what we thought was the peak, turned out to be a false summit, the real one was just to the north.
By the time I made it over the false peak, Tom was already on the real one.
The summit register was in a Band-Aid box.
Tom signing the register on Owens Point at 11,375 feet.
Me on Owens Point.

Zoomed in on Trailmaster on the left and Cirque Peak on the right.
This shot shows the route we used to Woollyback. From the saddle, we followed the flat ridge line to the peak which is just left of Mount Langley.

Looking north up the Owens Valley.
The town of Lone Pine to the northeast.
Used an different route back down to the saddle.
Almost back on the saddle at 11,100 feet. Woollyback is the light colored peak in the center.
Starting up a short way past the saddle. The route from Owens Point to Woollyback is easy XC.
Looking back at Owen Point on left.
Trail Peak.
We past some nice looking rock formations.
Trailmaster and Cirque Peaks.
Tom spotted a group of Big Horns on the ridge.
Same shot of the Big Horns cropped. I was a little slow taking the shot and got their butts as they started moving away.
This section of the route was easy hiking. The ridge here is wide and flat.
Looking back on Owens Point, the highest peak. This is where the route gets a little steep.
Getting closer, Woollyback is just past the highest peak.
Tom and me on Woollyback at 12,840 feet. The peak on the left is Mount Langley.
Another Band-Aid box register.
The last person on the register was Cori on 9/17/06. Tom B was here on 9/10/06.

Old Army Pass still had a little snow remaining.
We had a good view of Mount Langley.
